My grandmother, Amy Lacounte Portra, came to this area in 1905 as a small child with her parents. My grandfather, Norbert Portra Sr., came to this area in 1910 as a young man. When he started to buy land in the area it was 10 cents per acre.

I am the 3rd generation to live on the family homestead. I attended school in Froid, Montana until the 11th grade when I transferred to Williston, ND, where I graduated. I attended college in Great Falls, Montana. I worked in Williston at the local creamery until it closed in 1988.

My husband was raised in Monahans, Texas. He started in the oilfield while still in high school. He came to Montana with the oilfield in 1978. He continues to work in the oilfield today. In 1989 we went to Alaska on the Exxon-Valdez oil spill cleanup. When this project was completed, Bob went up on the North Slope to the Purdhue Bay area. In 1990 we went to North Africa, where we worked for Veba Oil Operations of Germany. We came home in 1995 and have been in the area ever since.

We enjoy traveling and meeting new people. We look forward to meeting all of you in our new venture.

Sincerely,

Bob & Darnell Sparks
